Awe-inspiring, unlike any other.
Perfectly gorgeous, a gift to mankind,
In turn they swoon, one after another.

But an angel without wings is broken;
Hers were taken a hundred years ago.
The curse she bears is silent, unspoken,
But still she smiles, her beauty aglow.

What she wouldn't give for another chance,
But she knows she must live with her choices.
She stands unblinkingly, fixed in her stance,
Never once giving in to those voices.

Silently, she waits, for that fateful day,
When a mortal shall arrive in her life.
His feelings of lust shall be kept at bay;
Then, only then, shall she become
Knockin' on Heaven's door....

Morning VerseThe morning makes me reckless
with the smell of coffee curling
through my veins in electric
tendrils,
and the pen betwixt my fingertips
shooting feelers through my brain,
and a single dying star
burning in the dawn-green
East.
The morning makes me restless
with the promise of the day
and the breath of open windows
and the smooth relief of
ink;
so in the morning, like a child

Indian SummerThe Texas autumn froths
in shades of taupe and cinnamon
and lemon-scented yucca blooms -
waxen belles amid the spikes,
thickets of Jumano spears.

The Texas autumn ravages
the sunscorched clay with burning winds
that chew the live oaks all to shreds
and turn mesquites to kindling.
Wildfire breath.

The Texas autumn ticks along
in desiccated deer
yearning for a sip of winter
to ease their cracking riverbeds.

The Texas autumn flows
in rivers of molten tar
along the curbs, beneath the cars,
inexorable.

like a woman in labor
and clings to the sun
with gifts of fiery fiddle strings

While I was reading this I couldn't help but think about this woman I used to work with. I don't know how you did it but you described her perfectly. I think we may know the same people. And those hoop earrings are not just uncomfortable but they're stupid looking and dangerous. Great poem. :iconhihilove:

Great message. I would have to agree: today's society has set a standard, and anyone who doesn't fit it is left in the dark. Did you know, that only a few hundred years ago, beauty was pale skin, a plump stature, and naturally beautiful hair? Mhm. Check out some renaissance paintings :) It's sad, how the ideals of human culture changes for the worse.
